Mama C, wife of exiled Paul Oniel (former Kansas City Black panther leader) in New York on a mission

Charlotte Oniel also known as Mama C and wife to Peter Oniel (former Kansas City Black panther leader) who was exiled in 1970 to Tanzania, Africa. Mama C visited New York on a mission to raise funds to hopefully one day build a community center in the place she has called home for the past 40 yrs, Tanzania. FindingMyRoots.org was lucky to be apart of this meeting. As you can see it was beautiful gathering. "Hanging out with her gave me goose bumps," said one attendee. Nevertheless, even till this date Mama C's husband, Pete Oniel, is still banned from returning to the USA.

Finding ones true roots by Ms. Davis

Finding ones roots could be knowing where you come from and where you want to be in a certain period of time. It could also be explained as finding balance and spiritually. Finding ones roots doesn't necessarily mean digging through your family tree and ancestral history. It could be a time of self discovery, where you reflect on your life, what you have been through (and not) and how far you have come because life is a journey. It could be smooth and other times rough. However, one should be always prepared for the unknown of life and move forward. Making mistakes a few times and taking risks is all part of life's uncertainty (it doesn't matter how long you stay down, but will you rise.) Finding ones spiritual balance can be another way of knowing one's self. Devoting a quality time to ones self, whether to meditate or to be in an absolute tranquillity as you search yourself from within.

Being physically comfortable with your body is an important way of Knowing yourself. For one can't give what they don't have; for example, if you are not happy in your own body and have lost your self-esteem how do you expect others to treat you?

Finally, being emotinally balanced is a great way of finding onself. For one, the existence of life is based on love. One has to love themselves first in order to love others, right? Additionally, having an open heart and taking risks in finding true love and happiness is essential in finding oneself.
